AUBL Hoop Scholars Launches in Hong Kong

AUBL Hoop Scholars is a development-focused initiative designed for student-athletes who demonstrate strong academic commitment alongside a passion for basketball. The program emphasizes discipline, coachability, and long-term growth — supporting young players who aspire to excel both on the court and in the classroom.
From December 29 – 31, 2025, the Asian University Basketball League (AUBL) proudly launched the inaugural AUBL Hoop Scholars – Winter Clinic in Hong Kong. Over three inspiring days, we brought together talented male and female student-athletes from Hong Kong’s leading universities and top secondary schools for a transformative basketball development experience.
As a pan-regional league dedicated to elevating Asia’s basketball culture and ecosystem, AUBL is committed to creating opportunities beyond competition. The Hoop Scholars initiative was designed to bridge gaps and build pathways — connecting elite coaching, high-level training environments, and the next generation of aspiring players.

We were honored to have internationally renowned skills coach Gary Maitland lead the clinic. With experience training NBA stars such as Jimmy Butler, Jordan Poole, and Brandin Podziemski — alongside EuroLeague and collegiate athletes — Gary brought a tailored, purpose-driven methodology focused on precision and game-ready skill translation.

This pilot edition of Hoop Scholars created a shared learning environment where university and secondary school players trained side-by-side, emphasizing the integral link between athletic growth and academic pursuit. Building on AUBL’s previous development clinics in Hainan, Hong Kong, and Hangzhou, this Winter Clinic reinforced our commitment to grassroots engagement and building stronger connections between youth and collegiate basketball.
Through initiatives like this, AUBL continues to foster the growth of Asia’s basketball landscape — where education, competition, and elite development come together to celebrate the potential of every student-athlete.
